IS FASTING FOR BELIEVERS?

A brother asked me, "Do you fast? If you do why?" I have fasted before but from the day I encountered the Word till now I don't fast. I remember I planned to go as far as 40days fasting after I had my longest fasting ever (21days)๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜”. Knowledge they say is power. In Christ,  knowing and holding unto the truth brings total freedom. Because of lack of knowledge, many are perishing.

I did fast ignorantly because I thought that was the way to get more closer to God, to get more power to break satanic traps, to get breakthroughs, to hear God's voice, and what you can think of. Little did I know that the flesh profits nothing as Jesus said in John 6:63.

Ignoring food and water (fasting) for sometime doesn't profit you spiritually in anyway. Besides, you can't control your body (flesh) by fasting, but by mind renewing. To be son conscious and enjoy your sonship, feed your mind with the Word always. When it comes to satanic traps and breakthroughs, Jesus Christ has dealt with that 2000 years ago. So what is left for you is to believe in what Jesus has done for you and walk freely in it.

So far as you believe in Jesus, you've got the power to cast out demons in the name of Jesus, not by fasting (Mark 16:17-18). Your belief in Jesus Christ is what releases miraculous signs to follow you, not your fasting. Remember, you're a SON of GOD and you're fully anointed, unless you don't believe in Jesus. Your capability is the Christ inside of you, not the level of your fasting.

Obviously, I was ignorantly fasting for what JESUS CHRIST has already provided through His death and resurrection. So now that I know, why should I fast? Unless I don't believe in what Jesus has done in which I totally believe in. In fact, I rest in that.

Furthermore, believers are not to fast because JESUS CHRIST is with us always, even to the end of the age. Let's study something amazing here๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Matthew 9:14-15 (KJV)
14Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”
15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Did you capture that? Please go back and read again. Jesus was supposed to answer the question in verse fourteen and He did that in a prophetical manner. What do I mean? Let me paraphrase the verse fifteen for you to well understand the response of Jesus. There we go๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

"Can believers of Jesus mourn (fast) as long as Jesus is with them? But the days will come when Jesus will be crucified, and they will mourn (fast)".
Here, Jesus was prophesying about His crucifixion and what would happen to the disciples during those days. And it came to pass. The disciples later found themself locked up in a room out of fear when  Jesus was crucified (John 20;19-20). What do you think they were doing in the room? Mourning (fasting) of course!

You see? That verse has been fulfilled 2000 years ago.
Jesus has not been taken away from us and He will not be taken away from us so why should we fast? Though He was taken from us (when He was crucified on the cross) but that was then. Now HE LIVES FOREVER. Christ lives in you so why should you mourn? Why should you fast?

Actually, fasting isn't for new testament believers. It's a Jewish tradition. You are not a faster, you are a meditator of the WORD. When you love to meditate on the WORD, you will sometime even forget that you haven't eaten for hours. Your busyness with the WORD can make you forget about food sometimes. Delve into the Word by renewing your mind. Build yourself with the Word daily because that is where lies your freedom. "THE WORDS THAT I SPEAK TO YOU ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE" - JESUS CHRIST.

Stay blessed and inspired
