THE FIRST STEP OF FAITH

📓1 Kings 17:13
_And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. (KJV)_

Faith is believing in the seemingly impossible. It is a mentality that expect God to act despite doubts and questions. It is written, "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happened; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see" - Hebrews 11:1 (nlt). Faith is completed by an action; it is incomplete when not in action. "What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions?..." (James 2:14, nlt). Apparently, faith is an action. And every action requires a first step which demonstrates the readiness of the actor.

A widow was gathering sticks to cook her last meal, eat with her son, and their next hope was death because there had been years of great famine and that was their last meal. In the process, she met Elijah, a prophet of God who begged her for a little cup of water to quench his thirst. As she was going to get it, the prophet again asked for bread. The widow then told the prophet what she had left which was only enough for herself and her son. But the prophet said to her, "...Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth" - 1 Kings 17:8-14.

Beloved, supposing you find yourself in the widow's situation, would you obey the prophet's order? According to the verse fifteen and sixteen, the widow did exactly as the prophet told her, and there was always enough flour and oil left as God promised through the prophet. The widow took a step of faith, ignoring excuses, doubts and questions. What she was promised was seemingly impossible but she took the first step of faith and that produced her a miracle. Relationship with God is full of promises but the fulfilments begin with an act of faith which is obedience. You won't get until you ask, find until you seek, be opened until you knock. Until you take the first step of faith, you will always be blocking your miracles.
