GUARD AGAINST ALL KINDS OF GREED

_Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kind of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions". (NIV)_
A selfish and excessive desire for more than is needed or deserved, especially of money, wealth, food, or other possessions is termed as greed. Greed is very dangerous to the life of every man. It destroys our relationship with God, blinds us to God's guidance and counsel, and dives us into ruin and destruction. "Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it rob them of life" - Proverbs 1:19 (nlt). Besides, "Greed brings grief to the whole family..." - Proverbs 15:27 (nlt).
From our preceding verse, Christ Jesus says that life is not measured by how much a person has or own. He therefore warns us against every kind of greed. Nevertheless, some people are always greedy for more; "Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied. They are ignorant shepherds, all following their own path and intent on personal gain. 'Come', they say, 'let's get some wine and have a party. Let's all get drunk. Then tomorrow we'll do it again and have an even bigger party!" - Isaiah 56:11-12 (nlt). "Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core" - Jude 1:11 (kjv).
Beloved, be on guard against all kind of greed. Be careful of your desire for what you don't have. "You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world" (Ephesians 5:5, nlt). Therefore, learn to be content, fail to pay attention to costly allurements and focus instead on what can truly satisfy you, that is, a rich relationship with Christ Jesus, the Lord.
