I HAVE LEARNED

đź““Philippians 4:11
_Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. (KJV)_

The fall of man from God's gracious presence affected all creation. With the exception of Jesus, every human being ever born has inherited the sinful nature of Adam and Eve. No one teaches or educates men to think and act evil; naturally, they do. There is no need to plant thorns and thistles; they naturally grow because they are indigenous to the earth. However, to enjoy the good fruits and precious things of the earth, there is the need of cultivation.

Probably, pumpkins will not just sprout on our plots but weeds will. If we want pumpkins, we must learn to cultivate. If we want godliness and contentment, we must cultivate. As human as we are, our hearts are full of pride, discontent, covetousness, slander, greed, and other lustful desires. To get rid of our sinful nature, we need the new nature that can produce self-control and contentment, that's the Holy Spirit. It is in Him we get education. We must learn from what He teaches us to be. Whatever seed He gives to us, we must cultivate (cause it to grow). Apostle Paul once was depressed by his sinful nature but he realized the need of education from Jesus Christ (Romans 7:14-25). He learned to be content in whatever state he was. In other words, he learned how to control himself.

Beloved, are you learning from the Holy Spirit? When you go through your past life, can you confidently say "I have learned to be humble, faithful, and content?" Anyone who learns from the Spirit sees life from God's point of view. He focuses not on his feelings but on his duty. Learn to stop an evil thought before it becomes an action. Learn to forgive yourself and others of mistakes and press on to possess what God has intended for you. Learn to serve others in humility before you fall into the pit of pride. In brief, in what state you will find yourself, learn to be content and control yourself. For "...godliness with contentment is great gain" - 1 Timothy 6:6.
